Kevin Major
Kevin Major was born in Stephenville, Newfoundland. In Grade 10, a teacher predicted that he would one day write a book.
After high school, Major travelled the world before attending Memorial University in St. Johns. He became a teacher, and quickly discovered that there was not enough literature for his students that took place in their own province.
Major became an editor of Doryloads, an anthology of Newfoundland stories. Eventually, he gave up teaching to write full-time. His first book, Hold Fast, was a great success, winning several awards. In 1992, he won the Vicky Metcalf Award for Children’s Literature, at which time he had written six books for young adults. Since then, he has written another four books for young adults, of which Ann and Seamus is the most recent.
Major lives in St. Johns with his wife and two sons.
