Janet McNaughton
Janet McNaughton was born and raised in Toronto, but moved to Newfoundland to pursue graduate studies at Memorial University.
After obtaining a Masters and a Ph.D. in folklore, she began writing articles for magazines, and eventually became a book reviewer for Quill & Quire.
McNaughton applies the lessons she learned while reviewing books to the young adult novels she now writes. She finds inspiration for her stories in folklore and her own family history.
She is known as a perfectionist, compelled to get everything right, and extensively researches her subjects, whether she is writing about the past or the future.
At present, McNaughton lives in St. Johns with her husband and an Alexandrine parakeet named Merlin. She also has a daughter who aspires to medical school.
