Paul Yee
Paul Yee was born in Spalding, Saskatchewan, but grew up in Vancouver. Because his family didn’t have a TV, he read many books. His favourite stories were adventure books about faraway places.
Yee obtained a Bachelor’s, and then a Master’s degree in Canadian History from UBC. He worked as an archivist in the City of Vancouver archives, and in his spare time, did research and volunteer work in Chinatown.
In 1988, Yee moved to Toronto, and worked first at the Archives of Ontario, then at the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship.
When Yee was growing up, he never found books about the world of immigrants in Canada. Yee has tried to fill that void with his writing. Many of the characters in Yee’s stories are inspired by members of his family and community.
