Maggie L. Wood

Maggie L. Wood was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. While she was growing up, she wanted to be a comic book artist.

At age 18, Wood moved to Ontario. After college, she worked in an insurance business. One day, she was intrigued by a gamebook that her stepson showed her. She tried to write gamebooks for girls, but the publishers said there wasn’t a market for them. Instead, they suggested that she write novels.

To improve her writing skills, Wood joined a writing group and read countless young adult novels. When Sumach Press phoned Wood to tell her that they wanted to publish The Princess Pawn, Wood nearly hung up on them, thinking it was a telemarketer!

Wood now writes young adult and middle grade fantasy fiction. She has been a bookseller for over ten years, and lives with her family in London, Ontario.
