Waiting for Sarah
On the way home from the Abbottsford Air show, the Scott family meet with an accident. The only survivor, Mike, regains consciousness in hospital a while later. Unfortunately, both his legs were crushed in the accident and were amputated before he woke up. He will probably be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Mike moves in with his aunt and refuses to do anything or go anywhere. After missing a whole year of school, Mike returns, desperate to make up his missed courses. Sadly, history, which used to be his favourite subject, no longer interests him and he'll do anything to get out of class. Margaret Cowley, editor of the school yearbook, asks Mike to write a history of Carleton High. In return, she promises to get him out of history. In the library archives, Mike meets Sarah, a freshman. She is chatty and annoying, but he soon grows to enjoy her company. One day, just before Christmas break, Mike encounters a sobbing, injured Sarah who disappears when he calls for help. No one in school believes his story. Little does he know, he is the only one who can see her.
