The Stellar Book Award is B.C.'s Teen Readers' Choice Award. The "Stellar Season" runs from November to April of each school year with the launch for the new season (and the new website) occuring in November and voting in April. Stay tune for the new website to launch with the 2006/2007 titles very soon.
To conclude the 2005/2006 Stellar year, the inaugural winners (see below) are traveling to Vancouver and Victoria for a celebration tour of author readings. To a group of over 700 students on May 13th, North Vancouver teens James and Swarna announced the winner, and the honour book, selected by teens from throughout B.C. for the inaugural Stellar book award!
Swarna announced the Honour Book for 2005/2006: Janet McNaughton's An Earthly Knight.
James announced the Winner of the inaugural award: Barbara Haworth-Attard's Theories of Relativity.
Immediately following the announcements, James and Swarna phoned the authors to let them know the results of the voting. Congratulations to all of the nominees of this year's award, and to all of the teen readers who participated, reviewed, interviewed and voted.
Nominees for the 2006/2007 Stellar Book Award were also announced. This website will be in development for the 2006/7 program throughout the summer and will launch in the November!
Librarians and teachers wishing to order sets of the books to prepare for next year's program are encouraged to do so by ordering through the "Friends of the Young Readers' Choice Awards" and from the order forms which will soon be linked on this website or can be found under "orders" at www.redcedaraward.ca
