Richard Scarsbrook

Richard Scarsbrook, based in Toronto, was born in Olinda, near Leamington, Ontario. His first writing attempts were comics, and science fiction stories inspired by Star Wars.

With an honours degree in History, and another degree in Education, Scarsbrook became a high school teacher. When he wasn’t teaching Grade 7 and 8, he acted in a local community theatre, and played drums for a rock band called “The Know”. He also continued to write, and has had many short stories and poems published. Recently he has given up acting in order to focus on his writing, but still plays drums in his current rock band, “The Nerve”.

Cheeseburger Subversive is his first published fiction book. It was originally longer, but his publisher suggested breaking it into two books. The sequel, Featherless Bipeds, was published in 2006.

Scarsbrook really did ‘push pickle’ while in university. He says the description of the pickle factory in Cheeseburger Subversive is ‘dead on’.
